New bit complements the “Impaktor” system for cordless impact drivers

Cologne / Wuppertal. Since its 2011 launch, the “Impaktor” system from Wuppertal-based screwdriving specialist Wera Tools has proved itself to be indispensable for users of cordless impact drivers undertaking screwdriving jobs. In comparison to standard or torsion bits it offers as much as a ten-time longer service life depending on the output.

At the International Hardware Fair 2012 in Cologne, Wera presented a useful extension to the Impaktor range, introducing a new TORX® 20 (TX20) bit. It is available individually, as a 10pc box of bits, or in a new TORX® Bit-Check bit set. Moreover, three Impaktor TX20 bits have replaced the standard TX20 and PH1 bits previously included in the 30-piece Impaktor Bit-Check. 

So-called impact screwdrivers place extreme demands on the accessories used, since the screw is tightened by means of consecutive radial strokes applied rapidly in the direction of turn. The high output performance of the tool and the permanently recurring peak torque loads exceed the physical limitations of most bits and bit holders. This results in above-average wear.

The basis for a longer service life with the “Impaktor” system is created during the manufacturing process, with a best possible utilisation of the material properties, individual hardening technology and an optimally designed geometry of the screwdriving tool. In this way Impaktor bits are precisely designed to match the respective type of output, and thereby the individual screwdriving application, and are equipped with a torsion zone. Their combination with the two additional torsion zones in the Impaktor bit holder creates the unique “TriTorsion” system. Depending upon the peak torque loads, two or three of the differently dimensioned torsion zones react automatically, allowing an optimum adaptation to the specific screwdriving application. This enables even more kinetic energy to be absorbed by this screwdriving tool system and diverted away from the tip of the bit. This results in an unbeatably long service life, even when subjected to extreme loads.  

In addition, there are minute diamond particles on the tips of the “Impaktor” bits. They reduce the so-called ‘cam-out’ forces that lead to the bits slipping out of the screw head. Normally, a higher contact pressure is necessary with impact drivers, but the diamond particles literally “bite” themselves into the screw. This reduces the degree of contact pressure required and the user can spare energy even when using the power screwdriving tool for a longer period.
